Wild at Heart (David Lynch Retrospective)

Sailor and Lula are in love, but when Lula’s controlling mother, Marietta intervenes, Sailor ends up in jail for manslaughter. After Sailor’s release, the lovers decide to elope to California, and Marietta will stop at nothing to get her daughter back. Wild At Heart may seem familiar as another lovers-on-the-run movie, but nothing is ever familiar in the world of David Lynch. This perversely entertaining and delightfully weird adaptation of the Barry Gifford novel - winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival - lives up to its title with erotic energy and sudden bursts of violence. Filled with oddball characters, Elvis Presley songs and allusions to The Wizard of Oz, this is a David Lynch love story through and through.
