His curiosity over the grisly discovery leads him to a dangerous femme fatale, Isabella Rossellini, and a seedy criminal underworld run by the sadistic Frank. Intensely erotic, wonderfully bizarre and vividly hypnotic, this 1986 noir thriller shows David Lynch at the top of his game, establishing stylistic and thematic trademarks that would remain for the rest of his career. Despite a divided critical reception at the time of its release, Blue Velvet earned Lynch his second Academy Award nomination and has since been recognized as a masterpiece.
