Synopsis
Based on a Tang dynasty tale, The Assassin faithfully represents that cruel but poetic age with faithful historical details and imaginative backstory. The stylish lengthy wide shots on Chinese landscape allow the audiences to watch characters within their environment and highlight the characters’ struggles for love and honor. Nie Yinniang, raised to be a killer by her aunt, once fails to slay a governor who is cradling his young child. In order to test her heart and mettle, she is send back to her hometown by her aunt to kill her own cousin, Tian Ji’an, the governor of Weibo, to whom she was once betrothed…….
