Synopsis
The Engineer (Behzad Dorani) and his assistants are driving from Tehran to a remote village of Kurdistan, waiting to film a sick old woman’s impending funeral. The village boy serves as their guide while the treasure-hunting city-dwellers follow. The Engineer carries a cell phone that can hardly receive any signal unless he drives and runs to the top of the hill. The village cemetery is also located there. The Engineer talks to the gravedigger and then looks for the gravedigger’s girlfriend, using the pretext of buying fresh milk. The taciturn woman refuses to reveal her name. The Engineer starts reciting the poem “The Wind Will Carry Us” by Iranian female poet and director Forugh Farrokhzad to occupy the waiting time. Kiarostami gives the audience just a suggestion, encouraging them to feel and pay attention to the invisible, such as those eleven people in the film who can be heard but not seen. Director
