It Follows (bc sunday)

After a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, nineteen-year-old girl Jay finds herself stuck with a sexually transmitted serial haunting. She is incessantly stalked and attacked by terrifying phantoms, who will follow her forever and kill her unless she passes the curse on to others by sex. Her friends cannot see anything, but they still decide to help her out. The teenagers have to fend against this phantom plague for themselves. Following the first feature The Myth of the American Sleepover about suburban teenagers’ life, the Director Mitchell keeps his sentimentalized angle to the horror genre, conveys the genre thrills in a minimalist manner and complements it with the camaraderie and coverage between teenagers. The film also deliberates the sensitive problem of teenage sexuality in a symbolic way. TIFF called it “a creepy, mesmerizing exercise in minimalist horror”
