Making Waves —Short Films by the Directors of Trivisa

Intending to nurture newcomers in Hong Kong cinema, veteran director Johnnie To gathered three Fresh Wave Short Films Competition awardees Frank Hui, Jevons Au and Vicky Wong to launch Trivisa in 2011. After five years of trial and error and fine adjustments, Trivisa is now materialized. The time is ripe for us to throw a backward glance to where these young directors started; their past short films are a measure of how far they went.

Wasted by Frank Hui captures the anger of the teenagers whose everyday lives are filled with boredom and hopelessness ; Merry X’mas by Jevons Au depicts a little girl who has to earn the bread on the one hand and deals with the peer bullying at the other, the director observes the hardship and the dignity of the underprivileged with unflinching eyes; The Decisive Moment by Vicky Wong uses the story of a legendary photographer to pose a moral question, an unspeakable event from the obscure past of the protagonist turns out to be the key to salvation.
