The Burning Night is set during the Beijing Olympics, and five marginalised teenagers set off fireworks for fun in Guangzhou. Their reckless behaviour unexpectedly ignites even greater unrest, bringing the long night of joy to an abrupt end. In Caged Dog , a model student living in poverty, Jie volunteers to mentor Ah-he and discovers that he is taking care of the stray dog that has been caged by the troublemakers. Whispers in the Belly, director Bobby YU Shuk-pui, brings her family’s story to the silver screen. With real-life family members appearing on screen, the film examines intergenerational conflict through the lens of the young. Side A: A Summer Day has swept different best short film awards. It uses the two-sided structure of a tape to compare reality and illusion, and once again tells a story based on his own family, who are Chinese immigrants from India.
