Synopsis
“I can only see what's ahead, not what's behind. Doesn't that mean I'm missing half of what's happening?” — Yang YangDuring the most severe period of the pandemic, “14 Variations on the Theme of Yi Yi” was created under nearly impossible circumstances, yet it became a record transcending that period. Fourteen scenes, fourteen “days and nights of isolation”—we, like Yang Yang, self-educated through one experiment after another, all for the day when we could say, like Mr. Ota in the film, “I teach myself.” And it all begins with “not fearing that every day is a new day.”
