A struggling novelist might just have found his big break, but he's got one problem. Or four. As Edward's book gains traction overseas, he struggles to juggle publicity with caring for his nagging, ageing mother. Tormented by a secret impending trip to America for a promotional campaign, his predicament only worsens when three of his friends all dump their mothers on his doorstep for a "much needed" holiday at a three day Pride festival in the Mediterranean. All stubborn and steadfast themselves, Edward continues to spiral as he chooses to indulge the Irish mammies' whims. Writer-director Darren Thornton's familial comedy won the Audience Award at the BFI London Film Festival. Sharp, witty, and sometimes catty, Four Mothers is a heartwarming parable on the quiet devotion of care not only for those you love but for the part of you that longs to be loved too.
