In 19th-century Mexico, Frankelda is a gifted writer whose dark tales are ignored and dismissed. Despite being forced to suppress her voice, she refuses to give up. But when she is thrust into her subconscious, the very monsters she created come to life. Guided by a tormented prince trapped between dreams and nightmares, she must restore balance between fiction and reality before both realms collapse. A spinoff of a hugely successful animated series, Mexico’s first feature-length stop-motion animation feature is a spirited and colorful feast for the senses imbued with a playful gothic spirit that is reminiscent of Guillermo del Toro, the directors’ mentor.
