DIRECTOR – SCRIPTWRITER
CARMEN CHAPLIN worked as an actress in Europe and the U.S. with several eminent directors including André Téchiné, Wim Wenders, Sydney Pollack, and Philippe Rousselot. Carmen’s short films A TIME FOR EVERYTHING (2012), THE INNOVATORS (2014), and TRYST IN PANAME (2016) screened at many international festivals / events including SHOOT New Directors Showcase (NYC), the Saatchi Gallery (London), Lincoln Center (NYC), S.O.U.L. (BFI Southbank), Manchester International Film Festival, Shorts on Tap (London), and Hollyshorts Film Festival (LA). Carmen co-produced the award-winning documentary – and 2024 Slamdance opening night film – ONE BULLET (2023) directed by Oscar and BAFTA-winner Carol Dysinger. Carmen’s directing debut is the theatrical documentary CHAPLIN | SPIRIT OF THE TRAMP (2024) uncovering the cinema legend’s Romany roots. Film Constellation is handling sales.

ASHIM BHALLA is an award-winning filmmaker trained in NYU’s Graduate Film Program under Spike Lee and founder of the 'Purple List' screenplay initiative. Eighteen feature films have emerged from the list with more on the way. Purple List alums include Shaka King, Ash Mayfair, and Chloe Zhao. Ashim is Scriptwriter and Producer of the first theatrical documentary on Charlie Chaplin by members of the family CHAPLIN | SPIRIT OF THE TRAMP (2024) with Film Constellation handling sales. He is Producer of the award-winning documentary – and 2024 Slamdance opening night film – ONE BULLET (2023) directed by Oscar and BAFTA-winner Carol Dysinger. And Writer / Director / Producer of the Amazon rainforest drama 973 (2022) distributed worldwide by Canal .

KWANON FILMS is a production company founded in London by Carmen Chaplin and Ashim Bhalla to develop, produce and co-produce international narrative and documentary feature films.
