The film is based on Pierre Bailly's novel which recounts the ups and downs of fatherhood and questions the structure of the family unit. Aymeric, Jim's stepfather, met Florence, his mother, when she was six months pregnant. The three of them lead a happy life in the Jura region until the biological father, Christophe, returns following a personal tragedy. Aymeric felt out of place and, estranged from his child, decided to make a life for himself elsewhere. But years later, 23-year-old Jim knocks on Aymeric's door.
