Discovering his fierce mom is out of coffee, a caffeine addict leaves home and hits the road with his auto mechanic friend. It soon becomes a wayward road movie, when the twosome takes on two hitchhiking women trying to get home to Tallinn. Wringing from their uneasy silence, a tentative romance, to their awkward night in a hotel, this wry and strangely touching comedy, shot in sumptuous black and white, evokes the political relationship between Finland, Estonia, and Russia. Aki’s farewell to Finland’s Golden Era in the mid-60s, as he quietly observes how modern life dashes ahead at the expense of culture and emotions – and nobody seems to care.
