Ryuhei, the breadwinner of the family, loses his job and decides to conceal the bad news from the family. But he is the only troubled one in the house: his coming-of-age elder son is at a loss for the future; his younger son is learning piano behind his back; his wife is overwhelmed by the housewife’s confinement and the burden of holding the family together. This forlorn elegy of Tokyo by KUROSAWA Kiyoshi was the winner of the Jury Prize of Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.
