Synopsis
In this beautifully shot road movie and documentary, an architectural filmmaker duo take a new step on their journey between people and design. Their focus this time is one of the most celebrated architects in Japan, Ryue Nishizawa - the youngest recipient to ever receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize.Immersing themselves into Tokyo’s busy daily life with their protagonist and explore the city’s urban environment. On board his vintage Alfa Romeo, the famous architect narrates along while wandering in the streets of Japan’s capital, waxing poetic on buildings that have influenced Nishizawa alongside his own architecture projects.
The voyage offers a portrait of both the city and the architect, emphasising the presence of everyday life in architecture that has a personal approach. “Tokyo Ride” questions how both built and cultural environments feed and shape our imagination.
