Synopsis
Forty years on, Ann Hui’s impressive film on the human tragedy is as beautiful and bleak as ever. Boat People offers a shattering look, through the camera of a Japanese photo-journalist, at the horrendous living conditions that drove the Vietnamese to flee their homeland after the Communist takeover in the late 1970s. Taken as a prophecy of Hong Kong’s likely fate after the handover, the film’s deeply humanistic approach takes on a new dimension in the modern era of refugee crisis. Director
Ann Hui Cast |
