Synopsis
Following in the footsteps of Amour (2012) and The Father (2020), Gaspar Noé tackles old age and dementia in his own distinctive style. Italian horror maestro Dario Argento and veteran French actress Françoise Lebrun play an elderly couple slowly reverting to a child-like helplessness at the end of their lives. Framed separately using a perpetual split-screen, Noé has us observe their slow fade with unflinching objectivity, as Argento’s writer battles a serious heart condition, exacerbated by his wife’s failing mental health.
