Synopsis
Made by the same creators of Loach’s previous Irish outing, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Jimmy's Hall is inspired by Jimmy Gralton’s real story. The film is not merely a tragic of national and religious repression at that turbulent times, but a celebration of happiness, liberty and human sprits. What they are fighting for is to live, to celebrate, to dance, as free human beings. In 1921 Jimmy was incriminated by the Church and politicians merely for building a dance hall. The small hall on a rural crossroads in Ireland is a paradise where the young people could come to learn, to argue, to dream... but above all to dance and have fun. The film is set in 1932 when Jimmy returns after his ten years’ exile in New York. Witnessing the growing cultural oppression, Jimmy decides to reopen the abandoned hall, no matter what he will confront. The audience may find the Director Ken Loach a real version of Jimmy who fighting for human rights and sprits, while, at the same time, provides us the best entertainment.
