Synopsis
“A building has at least two lives – the one imagined by its maker and the life it lives afterwards – and they are never the same.”
Widely acknowledged as one of the most important architectural thinkers and urbanists of his generation, legendary journalist-turned-architect Rem Koolhaas is the mastermind behind architecture firm OMA, and landmarks such as the Seattle Central Library, the CCTV building in Beijing, and Porto’s Casa da Música.
Filmmaker Tomas Koolhaas spent four years following his 71-year-old global-trotting father, from Qatar to the Netherlands, Beijing to Venice. REM takes us inside the mind of a genius, as he reflects not only on the purpose of modern architecture, but also the dynamics between buildings and their inhabitants.
