Synopsis
“If we do not know our past, where we come from, what are we then? Then we are nothing”Beirut, Lebanon, Today. Mixing claymation and 2D techniques, THE TOWER portrays a bittersweet tale of four generations of refugees in exile, longing to return to their true homeland. Based on interviews with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, THE TOWER tells the story of Wardi, an eleven-year-old Palestinian girl, who lives with her whole family in the Beirut refugee camp where she was born. Her beloved great-grandfather Sidi was one of the first people to settle in the camp, after being chased from his home back in 1948. The day he gives Wardi the key to his old home back in Galilee, she fears he may have lost hope of ever going home. As she searches for Sidi’s lost hope around the camp, Wardi collects her family’s testimonies, passed from one generation to the next.
