Synopsis
Shanghai International Film FestivalModel, actor and obsessive film geek Saito Takumi (Taksu, HKAFF12th) makes an impressive feature directorial debut with this father-son dramedy. 13 years after walking out of his home, Masato passes away from cancer. At his funeral, his family – still stung by Masato’s act of betrayal – is shocked when the eulogies by Masato’s eccentric friends reveal a man that’s very different from the one they’ve resented for the past decade. Offbeat and cleverly constructed, Blank 13 is an unconventional dysfunctional family story that marks the arrival of a unique new voice in Japanese cinema.
