Synopsis
Movie Name: MM (2002)Director: William Raban Duration: 13 Mins.
Story: London’s Millennium Dome is a powerful Neoliberal symbol. This film uses a time-lapse technique to show key moments in the building’s history: the demolition of the site’s original power station in 1987, the beginning of the dome’s construction, the 1999 solar eclipse, and the light-and-fireworks show that marked its completion. These scenes hint at the powerful desire of the country’s then political establishment to build an international landmark.
Movie Name: Ghost in the Shell (1995)
Director: Mamoru Oshii Duration: 83 Mins. Language: Japanese(English Subtitle)
Major Motoko Kusanagi, the team leader of a police unit of sentient but soulless cyborgs, is searching for the Puppet Master, an entity that possesses consciousness but no physical form. When the Puppet Master unexpectedly develops self-awareness, it merges with Kusanagi. Adapted from Masamune Shirow's manga of the same name, this animated film makes Hong Kong the blueprint for its futuristic metropolitan setting, and poses questions about how we define the ‘soul’ today.
