Synopsis

In 1978, after the notorious Khmer Rouge seized power in Cambodia, three French delegates - an academic, a journalist, and a photographer visited the country at the invitation of the regime. On the verge of a military conflict with Vietnam, the totalitarian party endeavoured to portray a communist utopian to its western visitors, but the illusive bubble was under the risk of bursting at any time. Best known for his internationally acclaimed documentaries, Rithy Panh (Director in Focus [10th]) returns with a fiction film and continues his life-long dedication in remembering the national trauma of Cambodia.
