Synopsis

Vanguard Audience Award, Vancouver International Film Festival
Mongolian entry for Best International Feature Film, Academy Awards

A leading force in Mongolian cinema, actor Amarsaikhan Baljinnyam makes his directorial debut with a tender, elegiac parable exploring fatherhood, urban-rural values and a disappearing way of life on the remote rolling grasslands. He also stars as protagonist Tulgaa, a city chef who returns to the village to see his father for the last time. While in mourning, the prodigal son decides to stay longer to complete his father’s harvesting duties. On the plains, he meets Tuntuulei, a shepherd boy raised by his grandparents. In this fleeting but important time in both their lives, Tulgaa becomes a father figure for the 10-year-old who is proud and hardy beyond his years, but still very much a child yearning for parental love.
