Synopsis

How does our brain “listen” to what is “seen”? And how well do you know Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony?

Muted Situation is a series of propositions, which the artist started in 2014. MUTED SITUATION #22 is the last work of this series. The experience of watching (and listening to) a “muted performance” of “the symphony” in its entirety somehow unsettles our expectation, and raises questions about perception and its boundaries. Having won multiple international awards and the inaugural Sigg Prize in 2020, MUTED SITUATION #22 makes its début as a film on the big screen at the special screening at Life is Art Festival 2021.

Samson Young will introduce the screening and also discuss the ideas and concepts behind his work with the audience.

This work was commissioned by the 21st Biennale of Sydney, with additional support from the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA) and the Art Promotion Office (APO).
