Synopsis
Five years after the Sewol ferry disaster, director Ju Hyun-sook looks back on the national tragedy and what people went through after that fateful day in April 2014. Motivated by her own feelings of distraught when thinking of Sewol and by the commemorative yellow ribbon that still appears on many bags, Ju examines how Korean society at large was affected by the shocking tragedy that generated widespread outpouring of grief, guilt and anger. Different from other films about Sewol, this documentary carries the voices of ordinary people who watched the events unfold through news coverage. The stories and scars of everyday witnesses form a moving cross-section of how society copes, remembers and continues onward after a national trauma.
