Synopsis

For years, Toko has resigned to being trapped in a stifling life with a dominating husband and an overbearing mother-in-law. But when she encounters Akihiko, with whom she shared a passionate love affair ten years prior, Toko is suddenly caught between her duty and her desires. One of the most prolific female Japanese directors of her generation, Mishima Yukiko adapts the novel by Shimamoto Rio to tell a sensuous and empowering story about a woman who defies social conventions to take her life and agency into her own hands.
