Synopsis
Palm Springs International Film Festival BFI Flare: London LGBTQ Film Festival
Inspired by his own family history, writer-director Michael Clowater's debut feature is a n impressive and emotionally rich period dramedy that captures the aftermath of the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1968 in 70s New Brunswick. The gruff and striking Charlie Creed-Miles stars alongside three-time Emmy Award winner Alan Cumming in this tale of queer resilience, small-town strength, and the complicated yet enduring love between brothers. When crabby plumber Weldon receives a call that his estranged gay brother, Perley, has been arrested for engaging in public sex, he travels 1,000 miles to bail him out at his mother's behest. Jammed in the claustrophobic headroom of a beat up pickup truck, the two brothers, along with Perley's taxidermied pug, embark on an odyssey of icy landscapes, awkward silences, and familial forgiveness.
